What are The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®?

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® are a form of external, non-invasive physical manipulation that use only the therapist's hands to bring internal organs into proper alignment, thereby improving the flow of blood, lymph, nerves and chi in the body. Arvigo® Therapy is based on ancient Mayan techniques of abdominal massage that have been practiced by traditional healers, midwives and shamans for thousands of years in the therapeutic treatment of the reproductive, digestive, and urinary systems.

While Arvigo® Therapy does not outright cure disease, it does work to remove the obstructions and deterrents to the body's innate healing forces. By alleviating congestion in the abdomen and pelvis and returning organs to their proper place, the vital flow of fluids and energy to nourish and repair the organs and systems begin to naturally occur. This, in turn, helps to prevent the progression of symptoms to more chronic disease states. In essence, Arvigo® Therapy gets to the root of structural causes of imbalance and disease in the body.

What are the benefits?

Arvigo® Therapy is best know for the correction of the prolapsed, fallen or tilted uterus; for the prevention and treatment of benign prostate enlargement; and for the relief of many common digestive disorders, though its beneficial applications are far-reaching. What can I expect during a session?

At your first session, I will review your health history and ask you about any pre-existing conditions or contraindications that may alter the format of the therapy. During the therapy, she will work on the front side of your body, from under the ribs down to the top of the pubic bone, and on the back side of the body, from the neck down to the tailbone. Arvigo® Therapy should not be painful, but you may experience some therapeutic discomfort during the session. The abdomen and pelvis are areas on our bodies that receive little attention, so the first few times you receive deep, therapeutic work, you may experience some new bodily sensations and feelings or discomfort in places you haven't experienced before. In general, these are positive signs that the therapy is working and that the body is coming into a space of greater balance and healing.

During the session you will learn the basic Self Care Techniques so that you can continue with your own healing at home. This is the hallmark of the therapy - putting healing back into the hands of our clients. For many, this is the first time a health care practitioner has given them a way to truly care for themselves between visits. Clients often report feeling deeply empowered and finding a new appreciation for the healing capabilities of their bodies through the simple act of daily self massage.

We may also talk about adjunct therapies including herbal remedies, castor oil packs, faja use (especially for the prolapsed uterus), vaginal steams, penile soaks, hydrotherapy, nutritional changes, lifestyle changes (such as exercise and meditation) or flower essence therapy.

How often should I receive treatments?

In general, it is recommended to see a Practitioner about once a month for 3 months initially. Depending on your symptoms and the severity of the condition you are seeking to treat, more frequent sessions may be suggested. However, the most improvement will be seen by practicing the Self Care Techniques on a regular basis. Once per day is ideal. Many clients find this a manageable goal, since the Self Care Techniques take only about 5-10 minutes to complete.
